Monthly Benchmarking

About Benchmarking:

Benchmarking is the ongoing monthly review of a buildings energy performance and is the standard method used to determine how better or worse your building is in comparison to peer market buildings of similar type and size. Many cities and municipalities throughout the nation are enacting legislation and local laws that mandate benchmarking for buildings that meet a certain size criteria. However, many of these laws fall short of what true benchmarking is, and often the results provide an incomplete picture of the buildings energy profile.

The Benefits of Monthly Benchmarking:

Monthly benchmarking provides building owners and managers the tools that far exceed the scope of local laws and legislation and gives a complete picture of how energy in your building is used across each energy profile category (e.g. computers, heating, cooling…..). When a building completes benchmarking in any given month, the buildings energy profile can not only be compared to similar peer market buildings, but it can also provide that buildings previous energy consumption. The result of this comparison is that building owners and managers now have a powerful tool that allows the near immediate evaluation of energy conservation measures, occupant behavioral changes, and building operation changes in relation to the impact these items have on the buildings energy consumption profile.

Our Approach:

Pinnacle Energy will benchmark your building or portfolio of buildings and assist you in the interpretation, and analysis of this information in a way that will allow you to fully utilize the benefits of this service. When combined with our other sustainability services, benchmarking will give you the ability to better understand your buildings needs and energy requirements, and make the evaluation of further services and energy improvements much easier.

Our Goals:

The idea behind monthly benchmarking is that taking stock of a building’s energy consumption is the first step to improving its overall energy efficiency.  Since gathering all the data and compiling all of the historical data can be time consuming, our team on a monthly basis will;

1. Gather survey information about your buildings.

2. Obtain common area utility bills from Con Ed and National Grid.

3. Compile and analyze your data.

4. Review your information for accuracy.

5. Upload information to Energy Star Portfolio Manager.
